The Government of Brazil announced that a protected national reserve will open to commercial mineral exploration according to an article published by Reuters.
With an anticipated lift date in March 2018, it is believed that the 4.6 million hectare reserve will yield sizeable deposits of gold, iron, and other minerals.
A decree by Brazilian President Michel Temer stated that protections for “native vegetation, nature conservation areas, and indigenous land in the area” will not be lifted.
