When refuelling equipment/machinery, it is important to eliminate/remove ignition sources. Turn engine off Avoid smoking or lighting matches/lighters in the area Ensure all sources of ignition are removed from the area

To avoid exposure to dust, the following controls can be used: Use of wet processes Enclosing dust-producing activities and/or areas where dust is produced (with ventilation system) Avoiding using brooms; using vacuums instead Practicing good housekeeping

Never remove or by-pass machine guards Always wear appropriate PPE for the job at hand, including hearing and eye protection Keep cords clear of cutting area Avoid overreaching. Be sure to keep proper footing. Avoid wearing loose-fitting clothes that may become caught in the equipment Never over tighten the blade-locking nut

Wear loose, lightweight and light-coloured clothing Take frequent breaks in the shade Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated Keep your head covered Use sunscreen with SPF 30+ Reapply as required Be mindful of the effects of medications and their dehydration abilities  

Use barriers to limit presence of workers and pedestrians from working area Use spotters, as required Use machinery equipped with Roll-Over Protection Systems (ROPS) Always wear a seatbelt Only operate machinery on grades that are acceptable, as specified by the manufacturer

Use appropriate humour when you can Use anecdotes and stories to illustrate points Establish and maintain eye contact Use visual aids, where possible Make talks relevant Involve workers
