What is an Ironworker?
An ironworker is someone who works with iron, steel, and other metals to maintain, repair, and build metal structures (i.e. buildings, bridges, dams, etc.)
There are 5 main categories of ironwork:
- Structural ironworker
- Reinforcing and post-tensioning ironworker
- Ornamental ironworker
- Rigging and machinery moving ironworker
- Welding and burning ironworker
Where does an Ironworker Work?
Ironworkers work anywhere there is a metal structure being built or maintained. Most ironwork is carried out outdoors, however, there are some instances in which ironwork is completed indoors.
Depending on the project and the climate, ironwork can be completed year-round.
