Keep these safety considerations in mind prior to your next renovation job:
Obtain Required Permits
Depending on your location and the extent of the renovation, a permit may be required. Check with local building authorities to verify that you have the mandatory documentation.
Isolate Power Sources
Ensure that energy and power sources (i.e. electricity, natural gas, water) that may be affected by the renovation process are turned off prior to commencement of demolition.
Use Personal Protective Equipment
Just because the job is inside (and possibly at your own home) doesn’t mean that you should neglect safety recommendations. If there is a risk of debris falling on your head, wear a hard hat; if construction dust is a concern, use a face mask.
Cover Vents
Stop the spread of construction dust and other contaminates, by covering household vents.
Keep it Clean
Construction dust can be harmful to your health. Use wet rags to clean up excess dust on a frequent basis.
