Construction sites actively produce pollution daily. Limit your carbon footprint and lessen the environmental impact of construction activities by:
- Reducing air pollution
- Saving energy and water, where possible
- Limiting waste on site
Reduce Air Pollution
Air pollution is the presence or introduction of a harmful substance in the air, such as diesel exhaust and dust.
To reduce air pollution:
- Don’t let equipment and/or vehicles idle. Switch off engines when not in use.
- Control dust
- Use water
- Screen in work areas
Save Energy & Water
Construction sites can use sizeable amounts of energy and water. Conserve by:
- Turning equipment and lights when not required
- Where possible, using energy efficient equipment and lights
Limit Waste on Site
Construction sites can produce large quantities of waste, representing a substantial footprint on our environment. Limit waste on site by:
- Encouraging crews to bring reusable water bottles to site instead of using plastic ones
- Recycling, where possible, including concrete, plastics, and wood
- Replacing paper documents with electronic copies, where possible
