Workers are exposed to noise on the worksite on a daily basis. Everything from metal fabrication to using a chainsaw to operation of heavy equipment can produce noise at dangerous levels. This noise can have damaging (and lasting) effects on your hearing.
This very real hazard is completely preventable. With properly fitting PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), workers’ hearing can be protected on the worksite.
Know When to Get Protection
It’s important that you recognize the potential noise hazards at your worksite. Check with your local authority to verify if the sound level at your work level hearing protection. For instance, in Canada, any noise greater than 85 decibels requires hearing protection.
Select the Proper Protection
Not all hearing protection is created equal. Ensure that the device used provides adequate protection for the job at hand. Make sure that the hearing protection is comfortable and fits properly.
