What

Currently, I am the Fixed Plant Maintenance Planner at North American Palladium; I started out as an Automotive Technician and later transitioned into Heavy Equipment as a mechanic where I spent about ten years working underground (anywhere from 1200-7000 feet). After years on the tools, I progressed into several management positions including Planner, Supervisor, and Manager, I also broadened my horizons in the Fixed Plant (Hoist/Mill/Refinery and electrical field).
I also spent 15 years as a Firefighter/Captain in the Fire Service as an instructor at the Ontario Fire College, and roughly 5 years as an active Mine Rescue Member.

How Long

10 years as an Automotive Mechanic, 5 years as an Underground Heavy Equipment Mechanic, and the last 5 years in various management positions in the mining sector.

Where

I work at North American Palladium, Lac Des Iles Mine in Raith, Ontario, which is approximately 130km north of Thunder Bay, ON. It is a FIFO (fly in fly out) rotation position.

My firefighting career was split between Gravenhurst, Ontario, Bracebridge, Ontario, and Sudbury, Ontario.

Why

 

My father, who recently retired, was a tradesman in mining and a firefighter for 30 years, and had a big influence on my career path.

After taking a year of Electronics Engineering in College and not really liking it, I decided to go with a trade as I enjoyed working with my hands and troubleshooting problems.

For Fun

I am definitely an adrenaline junkie. I enjoy riding my motorcycle, snowmobile, and seadoo.

Camping and fishing are big, as well, and all with my dog… oh yeah and the wife 🙂
