The first overlooked worksite safety practice is awareness. If employees are not made aware of the dangers they face in the workplace, the burden falls on management to ensure they do.
Awareness is a critical component to working safely that is often overlooked. It is critically important that before ever setting foot on the work site, each and every worker/on-site personnel are made aware of any potential dangers associated with their required task. This includes getting to your work area.
Best Practice:
Employers – Ensure that each and every employee has been made aware and is properly trained to execute their work safely.
Employees – Always do a Job Site Assessment/Task Hazard Assessment. It is the duty of the employee to refuse any work that they deem as either unsafe or that they have not properly been trained for.
