As our carbon footprint becomes an increasingly important consideration, builders are looking for eco-friendly solutions for future projects.
Portland Oregon’s first ‘plyscraper’, Framework, meets the criteria in an exciting way: the 12-story high-rise is built using sustainable panels of cross laminated timber.
According to this NBC MACH News article, the advantages of the building material are numerous, including less labour time and effort than traditional building materials. The structural integrity of the building is not compromised by the timber, in fact, it is engineered to be stronger than concrete.
Structures built using this new solution are greener in nature, from the use of sustainable resources to the modular panels to the reduction of emissions in building materials; ‘plyscrapers’ promise to make headway for buildings of the future.
