The University of California has developed “Smart Greenhouses” with transparent, pink roof panels that are stained with a luminescent dye which absorbs light and captures energy. These greenhouses not only grow the plants, but also generate the power needed to run the greenhouse.

4. Cape Breton’s Donkin coal mine lays off 49 people
49 of the 130 miners have been laid off. The company says that the equipment they are using “isn’t well suited” and that “productivity is well short of where it needs to be in order to be a sustainable operation”.
5. Supervisor Russ Kurth killed in grain bin accident
Mr. Kurth was burried in corn outside of a grain bin. The accident is still under investigation, but it seems as though the door on the grain bin had failed.
