American technology giant Microsoft announced on Monday that it has entered into a 15-year agreement with General Electric for the purchase of wind energy.
The energy will be purchased from GE’s Tullahennel wind farm in County Kerry, Ireland, according to an article published by CNBC, and will be used to supply power for Microsoft’s cloud computing services in the nation.
The two companies will “plan to see how well the batteries can capture and store excess energy and then feed that back into the grid in order to smooth out peaks and troughs in wind energy production”, reports ZDNet.
“This partnership with Microsoft expands GE’s considerable presence and investment in Ireland, where we already employ over 1,500 people and, in particular, in the renewable energy sector.”
-Andres Isaac, Chief Commercial Officer, GE Renewable Energy
