Temporary heat can be used to make working conditions more comfortable in colder climates. Fuel sources used to power temporary heaters include electricity and propane.
Safety Tips
Follow these safety tips when using electric and propane-fueled temporary heaters on work sites:
ELECTRIC-FUELED HEATERS
- Do not block the heater’s air flow to/from the fan (as it can lead to overheating)
- Always check cords for damage (including fraying) prior to use
- Recommended to use an electric outlet with a ground fault circuit interrupter
PROPANE-FUELED HEATERS
- Leak test all connections prior to use
- Supply fresh air and exhaust by-products
- Store propane tanks outside of buildings and confined spaces
General Temporary Heat Guidelines
- Never alter or modify a temporary heat device. Keep all safety guards and devices in place
- Never use near combustible materials
- Never leave heaters operated while unattended
- Always follow manufacturer’s guidelines
- Keep heaters a safe distance away from tarps or other coverings
- Always operate heaters in a secure, upright position
