- Contact local authorities prior to digging (One-Call, 811, etc.)
- Ensure that you have utility line locates in hand prior to digging
- Have a pre-excavation checklist for reminders of tasks that need to be completed
- Only operate equipment if you are properly trained to do so
- Never work under loads that are raised and may have a chance of falling
- Always clear workers away from an excavation area
