1993 – After 14 months of negotiations, Mexico, United States and Canada announce NAFTA. An international trade agreement inspired by similar European agreements; NAFTA is intended to stimulate economic growth through trade by reducing tariffs. Upon its implementation on January 1, 1994, NAFTA become the largest international trading block.
