1973 – Shell Canada announced plans for an oil extraction plan in the Athabasca tar sands.  The project was valued at $700 million (approximately 4.1 billion today).  This solidifies Shell’s initial announcement to enter the Athabasca market in 1971. 

1933 – Five major French Airlines merge to form Air France, France`s flag carrier airline.  During World War II, the headquarters would be relocated to Morocco.  After the end of the war, they would become fully nationalised.
