1984 – Construction is completed on the Cologne Cathedral located in Northern Germany. The cathedral originally began construction in 1248. After its completion, it is now the largest cathedral in Northern Europe.

1993 – After 14 months of negotiations, Mexico, United States and Canada announce NAFTA. An international trade agreement inspired by similar European agreements; NAFTA is intended to stimulate economic growth through trade by reducing tariffs. Upon its implementation on January 1, 1994, NAFTA become the largest international trading block.
