1964 – Ranger 7 becomes the first lunar probe to successfully photograph the Moon’s surface. For the first time NASA is able to obtain images up to 1000 times more clear than those shot with telescopes. The imagery provided NASA with a significantly better understanding of the Moons surface; greatly contributing to the Neil Armstrong’s Moon walk.
