Who
What
I am a National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) working for a survey firm in Edmonton, AB. I started out as a “chainman” or survey assistant. I ran my own crew for 12 years, then 7 years of office work scheduling crews, checking their work and checking plans for accuracy prior to registration with land titles. For the last eight years I have been a full time safety officer for the company. I oversee the safety program for over 100 people. I am an accredited safety auditor and keep our COR (Certificate of Recognition) current and always improving!
How Long
I have been with the firm for 29 years.
Where
Edmonton, Alberta.
Why
I chose safety for a couple of reasons, the main one being…I have spent most of my life in the construction industry and seen many people severely injured. I want to try and ensure the culture of “cowboy” construction workers stops injuring people! Everyone deserves to go home safely at the end of the day.
For Fun
In my spare time I like to throw things…baseballs, footballs, Frisbees, etc. I also enjoy fishing and camping, watching movies and working out to ensure I live long enough to meet my grand children!
