- Prior to working, ensure that all equipment functions properly
- Check work area for combustible materials; clean up if required prior to working
- Always perform hot work in well-ventilated areas
- Ensure there is an appropriately classed fire extinguisher close by
- Keep others a safe distance away while performing hot work
