Hard hats are required on site as head protection. The use of a hard hat can prevent head injury: everything from a bump on your head against equipment, or absorbing the blow from falling object.
Hard hats are required PPE (personal protective equipment) for all workers and visitors to site. Ensure that your hard hat:
- Is in good condition
- Is worn properly
- Does not stop you from being able to use other required PPE such as safety goggles or hearing protection
OSHA states that hard hats should:
- Resist penetration by objects
- Absorb the shock from a blow to the head by an object
- Be slow to burn
- Be water-resistant

- Required protection

- Nature of work
- Location of work
