Hazards found in a regular workspace are also present in a confined space, however when working in a confined space such as a tunnel, well, manhole, tank, culvert, ditch, or ship hold, the hazards can be more severe. Some of the hazards present when working in a confined space include:
- Poor air quality
- Chemical exposure
- Noise
- Extreme temperatures
- Visibility
- Process-related hazards (residual chemicals, release of contents of a supply line)
