1907 – A revolutionary new wheat is developed by Charles Suanders; after crossing Hard Red Calcutta and Red Fife wheat strains. The wheat was developed to have a shorter growing season while maximising crop yield. It would become so successful, that in 1918 it accounted for 80% of the wheat grown in Canada and 40% grown in the United States of America.
