1964 – Ontario Hydro announced plans to construct a nuclear power plant. The plant was constructed in Fairview (Darlington), East of Toronto. It is currently Canada’s second largest nuclear facility, capable of supplying 1 million kw of power: approximately 20% of Canada’s power consumption.
In 2016 Ontario Hydro announced $12.8 billion plans to modernize the facility in order to update all 4 reactors in. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026.
