Beryllium is used in many industrial processes including:
- Precision machining
- Die casting
- Plastic moulding
- Welding electrodes
- Thermal castings
- Ceramic manufacturing
Workers exposed to beryllium-containing material (including particles, fumes, mists, and solutions) may develop:
- Fatal respiratory disease
- Cancer, including lung cancer
- Disease of the lung, liver, kidneys, heart, nervous system, and/or lymphatic system
- Skin sensitization
- Chronic beryllium disease
