If you work outdoors there is a possibility of contact with a toxic plant. Depending on where you live, the types and abundance of the plants will vary, but the threat remains, here are some tips to help prevent injury:
- Never touch or brush up against an unknown plant with bare skin.
- Become familiar with any hazardous plants in your area so that you can identify them by sight and prevent contact.
- If work is required near toxic plants, wear impermeable coveralls and boots, rubber gloves, and a face shield to prevent contact. Thoroughly wash this equipment before taking it off to avoid contact with sap.
- Wash all equipment that has touched the plant, sap, or oil.
