The CCOHA (Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety) reports that 34% of falls occur from a height.
Take the following measures to ensure that the risk of falling from a height is eliminated or greatly reduced when you’re working:
Establish Safe Work Procedures
Identify and assess all possible worksite hazards. Based on this information, establish and implement safe work procedures.
Three-Point-Contact
When using ladders, or climbing, always maintain three points of contact (two hands and one foot, or two feet and one hand).
Get Training
Ensure that all workers are trained how to safely work at heights (using techniques and devices such as three-point-contact and fall protection).
Have a Plan in Place
Ensure that a written fall protection plan is established that identifies worksite fall hazards, fall protection systems in place, and rescue procedures.
Use Fall Protection Equipment
When working at certain heights, fall protection equipment is required (check with your local legislation and regulatory requirements to verify when to use fall protection). These safety devices can help protect workers when working at heights.
