A Health and Safety Agreement serves the following purposes:
- Demonstrates company commitment to health and safety
- Proof of provision of Health and Safety Handbook to employees
- Proof of orientation to company Health and Safety policies
Why do I need a Health and Safety Agreement?
A Health and Safety Agreement demonstrates to employees that your company takes the health and safety of its employees as something of vital importance. It clearly outlines consequences for not abiding to company regulations and rules, as well as indicates that it is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that he/she adheres to these safe work conditions.
How do I use a Health and Safety Agreement?
- Upon hire, schedule health and safety orientation training for the new employee. Use this time to go over the company Health and Safety Handbook, as well as to orient the employee to work sites and applicable safety regulations.
- Have the employee sign and date the document to indicate that he/she received a copy of the Handbook, as well as orientation training.
- Have the supervisor sign and date the document to indicate that a copy of the Handbook was given to the new employee, as well as orientation training.
- Store the Health and Safety Agreement in the employee file.
