Last week, Hard Hat Hunter had the opportunity to visit the Ocean County Vocational Technical School in Toms River, New Jersey – the visit met all our expectations and more. Not only was the staff incredibly friendly and accommodating, but the school itself was incredible. For those who do not know, OCVTS is a secondary vocational school that prepares students with real-life experience in various industries, including the trades. The students obtain profound knowledge of the industry (electrical, HVAC, mechanics etc.) all at the secondary level.
The student’s skills and abilities are apparent. OCVTS student compete, annually, at SkillsUSA – where students often succeed against other students at the post secondary level.
OCVTS is truly making a difference in the industry by encouraging and educating students at a young age. This early introduction to the industry helps erase some of the stigmas often associated with the trades. Thus, by encouraging students now, we are also encouraging future generations such as younger siblings or future children.
Attached, are some images of OCVTS; it’s easy to see how the students are able to develop these skills with such practical classrooms.
Once again, a big thank you goes out to OCVTS for their hospitality and for supporting the industry.
