When working as a subcontractor, there are certain responsibilities that must be undertaken. Check out my list of things that subcontractors need to do when working with a general contractor:
Maintain Frequent Communication

Adhere to Policies and Procedures
When working on a general contractor’s site, it is the subcontractor’s duty to adhere to all site safety policies and procedures.
Participate in Safety Events
Subcontractors are often asked to participate in general contractor safety events and programs, including daily toolbox talks.
Provide PPE for Workers
Subcontractors are responsible for providing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for their employees to utilize on site.
Ensure Equipment is Safe
When working on a general contractor’s site, it is a subcontractor’s duty to ensure that all subcontractor equipment is safe to operate and in good working condition.
Report Safety Hazards
It is a subcontractor’s responsibility to report all safety hazards to a contractor immediately. This allows for the safety hazard to be identified to all workers on site, and measures to be taken to ensure the hazard is reduced or eliminated.
In addition to reporting hazards, it is a subcontractor’s responsibility to report any safety incidents or occurrences to a contractor immediately.
